ABOUT
Beyond the Cinerama Dome got its name from what used to be the best corner in the worst part of Hollywood. For many years, you could catch a flick at the Arclight Cinerama Dome and then spend some time browsing the thousands of used DVDs at Amoeba Music. Sadly, the Arclight Cinerama Dome, and the rest of the theater chain, closed its doors in 2021 because of COVID. The good news is that the Cinerama Dome is set to reopen in 2025 as the Cinerama Hollywood. The bad news? Amoeba Music also shuttered its doors on Sunset Boulevard to move down the road to Hollywood Boulevard.
For the handful of years that I lived in Los Angeles, that corner was my favorite place to visit. It made up for the fact that I had to travel into Hollywood. Like the Cinerama Dome, I also left LA because of COVID and moved back east. Beyond the Cinerama Dome is an ode to all the theaters across the world that I’ve been to. There is no better place in the world than a movie theater.
ME
This site is run by me, Tina Kakadelis. I’ve been watching and loving movies for as long as I can remember. Since writing professionally about movies, I’ve often been asked why I think I’m qualified to be a critic. I think everyone is a critic and I think everyone should look at films (and all art for that matter) with a curious eye without ever forgetting the labor of love that goes into every single movie. Criticism is not an inherently negative word. Some of the best critiques come from those who love filmmaking with everything they’ve got.
Aside from my writing here, I’m the News Editor for Film Obsessive. I’ve also written for Layered Butter, Girls on Tops’ Read Me, Film Daze, and more. I’m a GALECA member, Online Association of Female Film Critics member, and Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic. If you’re more into Young Adult novels than you’re into movies, I’ve got you covered there, too.
If, after all that, you’re still not sick of me, you can check out my personal website for my podcast appearances, book information, video editing, and my short films.
