Pittsburgh Film Critics Association Announces Winners for 2nd Annual Awards

The Pittsburgh Film Critics Association began in 2024 as a means of connecting the working film critics in the city. “The Pittsburgh Film Critics Association is proud to once again be honoring our favorite movies from the past year,” says the PFCA board. “We continue to champion the power of film and film criticism throughout the Pittsburgh region. Congratulations to all our 2025 PFCA Awards winners!”

Sinners, writer-director Ryan Coogler’s Southern vampire thriller, was named Best Picture by the PFCA’s 15-member voting bloc. One Battle After Another, writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson’s sprawling dramedy about multiple generations of American revolutionaries, finished in second place.

Rose Byrne, the star of A24’s tense and sobering If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, was named 2025’s Best Lead Actor, while Weapons standout Amy Madigan earned the title of Best Supporting Actor for her extremely memorable turn in writer-director Zach Cregger’s surprise horror hit. (The PFCA chose to not give out gender-specific acting awards.)

This year’s Good Neighbor Award—given annually to films that reflect the values and ideals of the Pittsburgh community—went to political thriller It Was Just an Accident. Writer-director Jafar Panahi’s film is a powerful critique of the Iranian regime. Made without the approval of Iranian authorities, it was realized through a co-production between Iran, France and Luxembourg.
