Pittsburgh is Beautifully on Display in First “How to Rob a Bank” Trailer

In July of 2025, the film crew of How to Rob a Bank moved into town. By all accounts, the out-of-town cast and crew enjoyed their time in the Steel City. Stars Nicholas Hoult and Anna Sawai threw out a first pitch at the July 27th Pittsburgh Pirates game against the Arizona Diamondbacks while their co-star Pete Davidson had a run of sold out show at Bottlerocket Social Hall. Davidson also got a taste of local cuisine by way of Pizza Lupo and a Turner’s Ice Tea.

Almost a year later, it’s time to see a glimpse of the fruits of their labor. Amazon MGM Studios has released the first official trailer for How to Rob a Bank. Directed by David Leitch, the film is about a crew of bank robbers who film their heists for social media. The trailer opens with Hoult’s character donning a wolf mask telling the camera some statistics. He says, “Odds of owning home? Four out of ten. Odds of earning a six-figure salary? Two out of ten. But the success rate of armed robberies is nine out of ten.”

When How to Rob a Bank was filming last July, they closed down the 16th Street bridge for multiple overnight shoots. While that sequence isn’t visible in the trailer, there is still plenty for Pittsburgh locals to spot in this almost-three minute look at the film. When the audience is introduced to Zoë Kravitz’s character in her apartment, a bedazzled Heinz ketchup bottle sits next to her on an end table. Later, Kravitz is leaning against a car on Smithfield Street downtown. The historic Gulf Tower is also briefly featured and, in the world of the film, is a bank. It seems as though Gulf Tower will be the final heist in the film.

Amazon MGM Studios has announced that the film will be released on September 4, 2026 only in theaters. For more information, follow the film on Instagram!
