“Go Gently” Show is a Road Trip Roadmap for Environmental Sustainability

A certain generation of kids grew up watching Bonnie Wright in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. For ten years, she was better known as Ginny Weasley, the kid sister of the loud Weasley clan who falls for the titular Harry. Sorry for spoilers, but you’ve had some time.

Now, Wright is reintroducing herself with Go Gently. The television series is based on her book of the same name that was released in 2022. The longer title of the book reveals Wright’s interest in her post-Potter world - “Actionable Steps to Nurture Yourself and the Planet.” When we talk about the current state of our planet, there’s the tendency to feel helpless. How can the actions of one person stop the proverbial bleeding of the the planet? Wright wants to provide a roadmap for those looking to reframe their understanding of eco-conscious.

Speaking of roadmap, Go Gently is a roadtrip docuseries along the West Coast of America. Wright is joined by Pattie Gonia, an environmentalist drag queen, on the trip from Los Angeles up to Portland. The goal of the series is to expand upon Wright’s book to inspire people to protect our planet. In the first episode, when asked what she hopes the series will do for the viewer, she says, “I want them to fall in love with the human species again.”

“Our show is about relationships and joy- two of the most overlooked pieces of the climate movement,” Pattie Gonia describes. “There’s so much bad news out there in the world and our show shows good news and the solutions that are happening when people take who they are and change the world for the better.”

“I laughed so much making this show with Pattie. The incredible people we met expanded my understanding of what's possible in the pathway forward. The places we journeyed to on our road trip reminded me of the beauty of our planet and what an absolute privilege it is to call it home,” says Wright.

“The biggest lesson I have learnt in the ten plus years I have been advocating for our environment is that humans need to first fall in love with nature before we can have the inspiration to live in harmony and reciprocity with her,” she continues. “As a storyteller it is my responsibility and joy to direct the lens towards people who are walking the talk and doing the work. People who are not waiting for someone else to create the future they want to live in.”

Go Gently is a six-episode series that was filmed in glorious locations across California and Oregon. The show is directed by Emmy-nominee Daniel Sharp who has worked on projects for Disney, HBO, National Geographic, BBC, and more.

“I love American gas station culture,” jokes Wright before they begin the roadtrip. For as heavy as the topic of environmental preservation is, Wright and Pattie Gonia bring such levity to Go Gently to show that activism also has moments of joy.

All episodes of Go Gently are available to stream now.
