First Look at “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy”

This is not your ’90s The Mummy. The goofy world of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz could not be further removed from Lee Cronin’s reimagining of The Mummy. Warner Bros. has released their first teaser for the upcoming film that will take audiences into a darker adaptation of the classic tale of a mummy come back to life. The short teaser, seen below, features rhythmic chanting, flashbulbs of a camera, and quick cuts that show the horrors waiting for audiences come April 17.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. It’s written and directed by Cronin, and produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville.

No pun intended, but major plot points of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy are being kept under wraps for now. What we do know is that the young daughter of a journalist disappeared into the sands of the desert without so much of a trace. Now, eight years later, she has returned to the still-grieving family. The only problem is that this reunion doesn’t seem to be as joyous as the family anticipates.

Cronin is known for tackling Evil Dead Rise in 2023, a film that wholly rejuvenated the franchise. It seems like Warner Bros. is betting on him doing the same for The Mummy.
